Zusammenfassung: Stabilization of the marsh islands is an important requirement in coastal protection in the North Frisian Wadden Sea. To protect these against erosion during the daily tide effects and during storm surges seawalls and holm revetments are built along the brims. Because of accretion following flooding of the holm, we need a protective structure which fits to the typical flat marsh land. Friction and permeability of the holm revetment should minimize the wave run-up and wave overtopping velocity to protect the marshland from scouring. Additionally, a service road on the landward side protects the hallig protection from wave impact loads. Wave run-up and wave overtopping are the most important parameters for dimensioning the slopes. The construction designs are calculated on the basis of the Overtopping Manual (2007). The fall parabola of the breakers and the wave impact loads are determined by the methodology of Führböter (1966). A presentation of the developed profiles - dimension adapted to the local circumstances - which best protect the transition zone between mud flat and marshland, is given.
