Zusammenfassung:

Integrated Coastal Zone Management as a Process of Regional Agenda 21. The Agenda 21 shall not be deemed to be a static document containing only bureaucratic guidelines and matters. Its primary objective is the realization of a model of sustainable development, which can only be achieved through close cooperation with the local population, and by respecting the characteristics of the region, which should be reflected in this model. Civil society competence and know-how should be incorporated and put to practice through some aspect of participation. Linking Agenda 21 to other processes like integrated coastal zone management increases synergy. Thus, combining Regional Agenda 21 Szczeciński/Oder Lagoon and the project “Research for an Integrated Coastal Zone Management in the German Oder Estuary Region” (ICZM-Oder; ) establishes a workable/practicable basis for sustainable regional development of the German-Polish Oder Estuary area.
