Wenk, R.. Raumplanung als Integriertes Küstenzonenmanagement. In: Glaeser, B., Sekscinska, A., Löser, N. (eds.). Integrated Coastal Zone Management at the Szczecin Lagoon: Exchange of experiences in the region. Coastline Reports (6), pp. 63-71. EUCC - The Coastal Union, Leiden, 2005.

Zusammenfassung:

Spatial Planning as ICZM. Integrated coastal zone management is more than German spatial planning can do, but spatial planning includes some of the important tasks of ICZM. The benefits from ICZM and impacts of integrated ICZM functions for spatial planning depend to a great extent on legal and administrative parameters. All in all, basic conditions are good in the German federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It would therefore not be advisable to change the legal status of spatial planning or burden spatial planning authorities with scientific research and environmental education in an effort to associate spatial planning and ICZM. Spatial planning should be more strongly aligned to the sustainable development of coastal zones. The planning authorities of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania attempt to use new planning methods in order to improve their guidance and control of land and marine development. The natural and social development processes of the Western Pomeranian coastal zone absolutely require integrated handling of marine and land area. Conventional and new instruments of spatial management could support spatial planning engagement for a balanced use of spatial resources in accordance with the aims of the European Union’s recommendations for ICZM.
