Zusammenfassung:

Internet-based coastal education for school and general public.

Integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) is widely understood as a future-oriented tool for the development of coasts and seas, taking into account all interest groups and use claims. An essential component is the knowledge transfer and participation, being the condition for successful and solution-oriented management. Modern media are more and more important for ICZM-players; they are intensely used by professionals and young scientists to compile and disseminate information. Learning and teaching systems that are internet-based and mostly free of charge are increasingly spread. In Germany, the learning and teaching system “IKZM-D Lernen”, an internet-based system for knowledge transfer developed by the Leibniz-Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde and EUCC – The Coastal Union Germany, already exists since 2004. It is successfully being used for the training of young scientists and for the presentation of results of project-related case studies. Recently, the system was also introduced in extracurricular education projects for students and pupils. This article discusses the use of the learning and teaching system “IKZM-D Lernen” in the projects “Küstenschule” and “IKZM-Oder”and examines critically the implementation of the system over the last years.
