The challenge Many research questions from the marine environment can only be answered using a multidisciplinary approach, both at the molecular level with genomics and other new emerging 'omics technologies in combination with an integrated ecological, physical and biogeogchemical ecosystem analysis and interpretation. It will be the challenge of EuroMarine to bring the marine sciences into the multi-disciplinary perspectives of the 21th Century. EuroMarine aims towards a durable integration between the major European marine networks - EUR-OCEANS, MarBEF and Marine Genomics Europe -, with a roadmap for joint programming, creating synergies between different scientific fields, and a common research strategy and a shared vision for the oceans of tomorrow. EuroMarine will engage the European marine data management and scientific communities in durably shaping the long-term integration of data and lead technological developments. It will have a leading role in structuring and driving forward marine biological research and technical development in Europe and beyond. The EuroMarine kick-off meeting took place in Gothenburg (SE) mid-March where some of you attended. We already now want to announce that the next large EuroMarine meeting will take place in Bremen in January 2012. Invitations and more information will come in due course.
